IB Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, the organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programs encourage students worldwide to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

IB at Lansdowne

Students at Lansdowne are continuously and actively participating in inquiry-based learning. One of the most notable differences from Lansdowne’s approach to teaching is that North Carolina’s Science and Social Studies standards are incorporated into six, themed units (four units for Kindergarten). There is also a heavy focus on IB’s “Approaches to Learning”.

Students are taught with intention research skills, communication skills, social skills, thinking skills, and self-management skills.  These help to develop the learner profile.  Beyond being just discussed in the classroom, those attributes are also highlighted monthly in our Bucket Filler celebrations.  We believe that this approach to education helps children become globally-minded, lifelong learners.
